WorldRadio Privacy Policy

WorldRadio ("the extension") is a Chrome extension for discovering and playing internet radio stations from around the world. This policy explains what data the extension collects, stores and transmits. WorldRadio has no accounts, no backend servers, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. The extension does not collect or transmit personal information to the developer.

1. Data stored locally

The extension keeps your personal data exclusively on your device using chrome.storage.local:

• Favorites — stations you save (up to 200).
• Recently played — your listening history (up to 150 entries).
• Collections — your custom station collections (for example Coding, Driving, Night, Workout).

None of this data is uploaded anywhere. It is used only to power local features such as Favorites, Recently Played and Collections. Deleting all extension data in chrome://extensions or uninstalling the extension permanently removes all local data.

2. Data transmitted to third parties

To function, the extension makes the following network requests:

• Radio Browser directory — searches and station-directory requests (genres, countries, cities, station metadata, top stations) are sent to the public Radio Browser API endpoint (https://de1.api.radio-browser.info/) with a descriptive User-Agent. Radio Browser is an independent community directory of publicly listed radio stations; see their privacy practices at radio-browser.info. The extension does not send any of your personal data, favorites or listening history to Radio Browser.
• Audio streams — when you play a station, your browser connects directly to the station's own stream server (this is how internet radio works). The extension does not proxy, record, store or upload the audio.
• Station resources — station logos (favicons) and websites you choose to open are loaded directly from the station's servers.
• Music history lookups — the "Music Time Capsule" and "On This Day" features fetch public music-history information from Wikipedia and open search pages in your browser only when you use them.

The extension never combines these requests with your identity and never sends your browsing activity or listening history to any server.

3. Permissions

• storage — saves your favorites, history and collections locally (see Section 1).
• offscreen — enables persistent audio playback in a dedicated offscreen document so music continues while the panel is closed.
• sidePanel — displays the WorldRadio user interface in the Chrome side panel.
• alarms — powers the sleep timer (for example, stopping playback after a set time).
• Host access (https://de1.api.radio-browser.info/* and general https://*/*, http://*/*) — required to reach the Radio Browser directory, to connect directly to the many thousands of radio stream servers worldwide (which use different hosts and protocols), and to fetch Wikipedia pages for music history features. The extension does not read or modify the content of pages you visit.

4. Children's privacy

The extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because no personal information is collected at all, no special handling is required; if you believe a child has used the extension, rest assured no personal data is gathered or stored beyond local settings described above.

5. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Material changes will be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing description.
